Vincent van Gogh (30 March 1853 – 29 July 1890) was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who is among the most famous figures in the history of art. In just over a decade he created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of them in the last two years of his life. He committed suicide at the age of 37, assuming he had psychological problems.
The painting was painted in 1890 in Arles after Vincent received a letter from his brother with the news that his nephew was also named Vincent. The technique is oil on canvas and has a size of 73 x 92 cm.
