Katsushika Hokusai is a Japanese artist, engraver and author of Ukiyo-e from the Edo period. His work is influenced by Sesshu Toyo as well as Chinese fine art.Hokusai is best known for his series of thirty-six views of Fuji, including his masterpiece The Great Wave near Kanagawa. Although his earlier works are significant, it is with this series that he is widely acclaimed both in Japan and around the world. It has a significant influence on European art.
